Shake Rag Concerts

Some of the region’s finest musicians performed at our weekly Coffee Talk.  Thanks to the tireless efforts of Doris Nabors and June Beverly, Coffee Talk has brought music to the community of Melrose for over a decade.

Coffee Talk, now SHAKE RAG CONCERT SERIES, is presented by Common Thread and Shake Rag Productions, Non-Profit community music programs.

October 2022

October 6, 2022 – John Stevens & Jon Rhoads –  Moondog performs as an acoustic duo featuring John Stephens and Jon Rhoads on guitar and bass. We play an eclectic mix of classic rock, blues, folk and country and the occasional original song. We like to emphasize the improvisational side of our instruments keeping the songs fresh and interesting. We play often in the Gainesville-North Florida area and are available for parties, weddings and special events.

October 13, 2022 – Joe Mark – A songwriter/singer from St. Augustine, Joseph has performed for over 40 years at many clubs and music festivals throughout Florida. Starting out as a classical musician he now brings guitar and fiddle to share traditional and old-time tunes, along with his own reflective original songs to paint scenes we are all in.

October 20, 2022 – Ken Miller – Dr. Ken to us, lived in Melrose while in graduate school and said he always wanted to return. Now he has…. Once again a Melrose resident Dr. Ken has been writing and recording music for nearly forty years. As a multi-instrumentalist, singer, arranger and recording engineer, he has recorded with nearly every piece of electronic equipment available from 2-track cassette deck arrays to the most modern digital rigs of the21st century. Although a reluctant performer more at home in the background, Ken is going to take us through a semi-autobiographical safari of four decades with solo versions of some of his hundreds of songs about love, loss, life, the universe and everything. The music spans every genre from country to rock to jazz to classical and R&B with lyrics that are clever, imaginative and sure to bring back feelings you thought you’d forgotten.

October 27, 2022 – Blue Skies- Mack Tyner & Paula May perform a variety of musical styles including swing, classic country, bluegrass, doo-wop and Paula’s original tunes with Mack on bass fiddle and Paula May on guitar and banjo, sharing vocal leads and harmony. Mack has sung in Barbershop Quartets and other acapella groups since high school. As a singer, multi-instrumentalist, and budding songwriter, Paula May has played music professionally over 25 years and was the 2006 winner of the Florida State Old Time Guitar Finger picking competition.
